| So in Episode III, we all know that Padme "lost the will to live" and died in childbirth. However, I believe that Padme was murdered by Palpatine. We know that Palpatine was taught by his master in some of the methods that he knew of to prevent people from dying (although the notion of keeping people from dying might have been a total lie from the manipulative Sith Lord, and Plagueis never dabbled in such things, but let's assume in this instance that 'ol Sheevie is telling the truth) Now, how might one use the Dark Side of the Force to keep people alive? Palpatine refers to this process as being seen as "unnatural" by many, which leads me to believe that it might require some kind of a sacrifice, since if the Living Force is a natural thing, it would be perfectly natural to use the force to prevent death if it did not require some kind of dark event to take place in stead of the impending death (also, Palpatine says it will keep the ones he cares about from dying, nothing about anyone else). Now, after the battle with Obi-Wan, Lord Vader is hanging on by a thread, and Palpatine is now determined to keep his new toy. So, there is only one option now for Palpatine, he must use the Dark Side ritual that his master taught him to keep his new apprentice alive, and Padme is the perfect sacrificial offering to transfer her life energy into the fading Lord Vader. "But TehJimsta", you might say, "Why wouldn't Palps just sacrifice a Clone or a prisoner to save Vader?" Well I'll tell you: because the last shred (or so we all thought) of Anakin Skywalker died with Padme, and telling Vader that he killed her himself would reinforce his control over Vader in the Dark Side, by magnifying his suffering, and it would instill an almost undying hatred of himself, to the point even that Vader and Obi Wan ascribe to a "certain point of view" that Darth Vader killed Anakin Skywalker, because the Dark Lord hated himself enough to fully embrace his new life as a Sith Lord and to completely suppress his former self. This is the self hatred that Vader would feed on for the 23ish years between Episode III and Episode VI, in order to remain strong in the Dark Side. And the thing is, Palpatine never intended for Padme to survive anyway, he probably would have killed her even had Vader not been horribly maimed, because love reminds us not only of jealously and fear of loss, but also of mercy, compassion, and understanding: things that the Sith are not too keen on. And so for these reasons, Darth Sidious killed Padme through a Dark Side ritual to prevent Vader from dying, and what was happening was so inexplicable to the medical droid that the best explanation it could come up with was that she had "lost the will to live". TL;DR: "Everything that has transpired has done so according to my design." - Darth Sidious |
